Question

Why are the per-purchase proceeds varying from day in the charts?

Forum|alt.badge.img+7

Hi,

when I look at the charts I have a “Proceeds” and “Transactions” row for every product. If I divide proceeds by transactions I get a per-unit proceeds value of 11 up to almost 17 USD. (for an in-app purchase for 22 USD)

Why is that? Should that not be consistent?

Of course there can be some currency variations but they can’t be so big that 14.28 € (proceeds from Apple for a purchase of 19.99 € in Germany / small business) is 11.50 USD, which would amount to more than 4 € difference.

I checked very thoroughly and could not find any proceeds number per unit that would come close to the 14,28 € from Apple.
I assume the numbers I get from the charts are correct and they seem to match what we get from Apple & Google, I just need to understand why this seems to vary so much every day.

Thanks!

Hi @womo,

The differences that you’re seeing are likely due to taxes being considered as well. The “Proceeds” calculation removes Apple’s commission of 15%, and also the estimated tax rate for the storefront that the purchase came from.

A helpful way to look at this might be to check out how the three different Revenue types compare to each other:

  • Revenue - total revenue generated in a period (minus refunds)
  • Revenue (net of taxes) - above, minus our tax estimate
  • Proceeds - above, minus store commission

So a good way to check that your commission calculation is correct would be to actually compare Proceeds and Revenue (net of taxes) - this should have about a 15% difference under the small business program, then the difference between Revenue (net of taxes) and Revenue should account for the additional variation that you’re seeing, due to tax estimate.

Hope this makes sense - let me know if I can clarify anything here.

Thanks. I always assumed that it was a simple calculation.
Price - 15% - vat.
I still don’t understand why the proceeds for same product sold at the same storefront for the same price vary from 11  to 17 $ within three weeks.

But anyway, it was a question out of curiosity, I assume of course in the end the calculation on RC’s is correct. :)
