Enabling Team Subscriptions with RevenueCat

💫  OverviewIt’s common for developers to offer subscriptions that unlock entitlements for more than one user at a time. This is usually seen in B2B business models where one person (an administrator) can purchase multiple licenses for a product and then distribute those licenses to workers within their company.While the app stores don’t support this behavior out of the box, this article explores how developers can implement such a subscription model with RevenueCat. 📖  Definitions One-to-Many Subscription: A subscription purchased by one user that unlocks entitlements for one or more distinct users. Are delayed webhook notification sent immediately after calling REST API?

We are testing sync mechanism of REST API (PLAY_STORE, SANDBOX). We found that if a renewal webhook is not sent, and when we GET https://api.revenuecat.com/v1/subscribers/{app_user_id}, the same renewal webhook notificaiton is sent immediately. I can’t find any information about whether delayed webhooks would be sent after calling REST API. Is this coincidence or a normal behavior of RevenueCat?

Determining if subscription change is upgrade or downgrade

I am developing a Google Play application which has multiple subscription tiers and multiple subscription periods:[Tier A - Annual] [Tier A - Monthly][Tier B - Annual] [Tier B - Monthly][Tier C - Annual] [Tier C - Monthly]I would like to apply different proration methods depending on if the user upgrades/downgrades their subscription.What is the most sensible method to determine if a subscription change is an upgrade or downgrade in this scenario?In this guide an upgrade is described as a change where the ‘price per unit of time increases’. I’m confused about how to compare two subscriptions which use different time units (e.g. moving from [Tier A - Annual] to [Tier B - Monthly]) Many thanks

How to cancel Google subscription through the SDK

Google’s new policy needs apps to cancel subscriptions. I am not using any backend (Firebase only). The REST API needs a secret key to do the cancellation which I shouldn’t include in my app’s code.So how can I do this?

Offline App Guidance

If you plan to have an app that is offline, then there is some information on RevenueCat’s end that you should be aware of.A network connection is required to make a purchase and communicate with RevenueCat, but the subscription status is cached on the device as long as needed via CustomerInfo. This way you can still check for a user’s entitlements so they can continue to access your app’s content. When offline, the current state of the subscription will be preserved until it can be re-synced with RevenueCat (e.g. if they're subscribed, they'll remain subscribed).The app user id and CustomerInfo are cached, and CustomerInfo will be returned while offline forever if the user never goes online, unless something happens that invalidates the cache. The offerings do not persist between app launches, so you will need to cache this data and display them yourself when the app is offline. Offerings or products empty

Hi! Just want to share our experience with App Store and app review team not able to fetch products.So we got rejected several times because product prices were not showing up for app review team, while local testing on device and also TestFlight consistently worked ok. So we decided to hardcode our subscription prices and it helped, app got released to App Store. But unfortunately payment wasn’t working, as products were coming still empty. We planned several strategies how to debug it, but I really wanted to give it a time, because a lot of users were posting that it took up to 24 hours for payments to propagate. In our case it took ~72 hours! But it works now! So guys don’t loose hope and just give it a time. P.S. while waiting for payments to propagate, on Approved subscriptions page we fixed typo in our subscription Localization and it turned into waiting for review status. Payments started working as our localization got approved. So not sure at all but maybe it helped payments t

Purchase a subscription with a free trial?

Hello, I’ve manage to create an offer in the RC Dashboard and in the Google Play console that is attached to existing product (annual subscription). The offer includes free trial. When I call the getOfferings method and select the specific offer and try to purchase, the offer does not include the free trial I’ve previously attached. Any help here?

😿‼️ Error fetching offerings - PurchasesError(code=ConfigurationError, underlyingErrorMessage=There's a problem with your configuration. None of the products registered in the RevenueCat dashboard could be fetched from the Play Store.

So I had this error message on my Android testing of my Flutter app (iOS worked like a champ) and worked through the troubleshooting steps provided by RevenueCat support, (https://community.revenuecat.com/sdks-51/why-are-offerings-or-products-empty-124), (BTW some of these screens need updating please, particularly because this is a popular post), I even got Google Play Store support involved (the portal is soooo convoluted) and after about two weeks of getting one email response per day, at my wits end, I engaged the chat service. A chat support person in Google told me in five minutes that I could only make my app release ‘ACTIVE’ in the Closed Testing if … my Managed Publishing state was ON!I didn’t know what that was, then they explained:them: Kindly go to your app's Publishing Overview section on you Play Consoleme: kthem: Then, click the "Turn off Managed Publishing" button.them: Once you've turned it off, kindly wait for the changes to be reflected on your Play Console.and then,

Got an email from Google Play asking me to disclose more information regarding RevenueCat:Your app is uploading users' Primary Account information to https://api.revenuecat.com without disclosing it in the privacy policy in Play Console. My app currently offers In-app purchases. Experiments should have the concept of "placement"

Hello,I feel like it is hard to have clean data of our experiments with revenueCat. The main reasons being:Almost every new experiment implies an app update which the user may not have done We have a paywall where the user can change his subscription that we do not want to include in the A/B testAs a result we always have “other” products in our experiment results and globally I am not at ease with the data returned.Is there something we are doing wrong ?It would be great to have the concept of “placement” so that we can do an A/B Test only in certain part of the app and also compare the revenues from differents places in the app.Best regards,

Can I create a way to unlock an entitlement outside of an In-App Purchase?

I have an app with an optional subscription for additional features. I have a company that wants to offer these features to it’s employees via a partnership. Basically they will pay a one time fee for 1 year access on behalf of their employees who download the app. On the app store, I can create a promo code that grants a 1 year free trial, but this will auto renew on the individual users Apple ID’s, which is not what I want. It’s not possible to do this with the other subscription option (Non-renewing subscriptions) which I thought would be the ideal solution for this case.  Would it be possible to create a section in my app, where the users can enter a custom code which will unlock a certain entitlement? Thank you!

One subscription for a group of users

My question is not as much a technical question as it is a user experience question.  I have not read all the dev documents yet regarding GourpIds etc.We have an app for schools.  Currently we have implemented subscriptions for iOS and Android.  We think we can get much more users and revenue if we rather implement a group subscription where the school can create an account, subscribing and manage users on that account through some we console.I’m not sure how one would go about doing this using the subscription services provided with the Playstore and Apple, unless I’m missing something.Would one perhaps go the stripe route?  And how do you go the stripe route and not get you app banned from the app store because you are not using Google’s or Apples service.It’s not that we want to bypass their service, I just don’t know how to use there service in an extremely user friendly way to implement such a group subscription.  When I say user friendly I mean for instance, you don’t want to for

Hi,How can I configure a free subscription / version in RevenueCat that is an extra IAP item? This item should be available for free for one week. And what do I need to configure on Appstoreconnect? introductory offer?So the goal should be that the customer can test the app one week for free and after the one week he gets the view again where he is asked to close the subscription.

Is there way to alter/edit subscription price for customer?

We change our prices time to time on store and when  the prices increase and customer cancel and resubscribe, they usually email us through support.Is there a way we can modify the price on revenue-cat for specifically for disappointed customers. How can we compensate these customers with some kind of offering?

Best practice for managing level upgrade with lowering duration

There is good explanation on how upgrades/downgrades work on the Revenuecat blog here. I however seem to be missing the case where the user upgrades in terms of a level and lowering the duration (at the section Upgrading Service Levels there is a description of moving to a higher level and a longer duration). As an example: Example> A user has a current subscription with 10GB of storage and with a 1 year duration.> The user now wants 25GB with 1 month duration. My question here is twofold:How do we configure levels, as my naive assumption would be that 25GB would be in a higher level than 10GB, independent of duration? If my assumption is correct how do we get around the situation where the following happens:Allowing the user to move to a higher level with shorter duration may results in a large refund and subsequently to earlier cancelation of any overall. I assume this is not something we want.  What is the best approach to handling this case?

feature request: purchase notification’s

Hi, would be great if we could have some sort of notification on when a user makes a purchase like Stripe does. This helps wanting to further improve the product as users subscribe and is good morale booster to keep going.maybe need an app for this? A revenuecat app on ios/android with an overview of the dashboard would be helpful as currently I pin a shortcut to my iPhone desktop.

Best practice for server-side CI testing?

Hey,because of how our subscriptions work in general, we have decided to not use the RevenueCat SDK to create purchases, but announce them to our own API, which will in turn make an HTTP call to RecenueCat’s /receipts route, passing the neccessary data.Arguably the most important piece of data is the fetch_token from the app store.The problem arises when we’re trying to run automated integration tests via our CI server - without doing an actual purchase on an actual hardware device, we won’t have a valid fetch token, so the API will always answer with the (reasonable) error: "The receipt is not valid.".So my question is two-fold:is there any way to simulate a purchase for testing purposes? how to others solve the testing issue?Or is our use-case really this particularly rare?Regards,Markus

Subscription with included consumables

I am planning to offer a subscription that includes a certain number of consumable “tokens” per billing period. For example, maybe you get up to 20 tokens per month for $1/month, or 50 tokens for $2/month.But if the user exhausts their tokens before next month, it should be possible to either buy more tokens, and/or, upgrade to a higher plan level.I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for the best way to accomplish this with RevenueCat.

Option to save filters

Would love option to save a filter - e.g. longer free trial users, price tier 2. etc. We have multiple offerings, prices, and free trial tiers in App Store listings, and manually creating filters by selecting all the different offerings that fall into each category is a pain.

How to Extend a User’s Free Trial

Hi everyone,I’m looking to figure out a way to reset or extend a users free trial. At present, we have successfully set up an In-App Subscription on both iOS and Android with a one week free trial. We then hope to send the user a notification or email when their trial is almost over prompting them to refer a friend to the app, which they will be rewarded for by extending the trial for another week.The refer all mechanisms is fairly easy to do with deep links, the question is once we have detected that a user has successfully referred a friend, what is the best way to extend their trial? Additionally, I’m still trying to work out how this plays with Apple’s terms of service - it seems to be within the rules but any thoughts would be appreciated.Thanks everyone!

Free trial based on use limit or time limit?

 I have a fitness app (Max reHIT Workout) and my current method of offering a free trial is to let people have access to 5 fully functional workouts free, forever.There's are two ads: an interstitial ad and a banner ad.If you want access to all 20+ workouts, lots of extra features, and go ad free , you can buy a yearly subscription for $5.99.You do not have to enter a free trial period with CC because I absolutely hate that approach.I'd like to increase conversions. Two methods I'm considering:Have a completely functional system without ads for 5 workouts. I figure if you've used the app 5 times and you don't want to buy, you'll probably never convert. A complication is this requires the user to login because i use cloudkit to store data for cross device access. After 5 workouts if they choose not to convert I revert back to a limit of 5 workouts with ads. Of course they can subscribe any time. Can't get rid of old active PlayStore Console subscriptions

Hi all,I’ve got some subscriptions defined in Google PlayStore console, but they where to test subscriptions a while back. Now we don’t use them within RevenueCat. But I can’t delete them in the PlayStore console (asked Google Support, but they told me that we can’t remove active products) These old products are never sold because we are stil in develop phase. My question now is, are these products every visible by customers? I don’t use them in RevenueCat and are not showing them in our app on the PayWall. But maybe they are somehow visible somewhere else? And even switch to or able to buy by customers? So is it safe to leave them in de Console (otherwise I have to delete the app in de PlayStore and make a new packageID with all the extra work)What do you guys think? Any advise? PlayStore Console:
