Dealing with confusing currencies from Apple

Hello all

I've just got a message from a user saying that the price of their weekly subscription was $60. I thought it was a mistake on my end, but it turns out that in some countries like Taiwan and Mexico, Apple doesn't show a specific currency symbol, but uses the generic $. In that user case, it should be NT$60 = $1.85 (USD).

I already submitted a ticket to Apple, but I don't have high expectations that they'll do anything. I'm wondering if RevenueCat could add a new variable to the paywall, like {currency_code}, to make it clear that the price is in the local currency.

Does anyone have any other ideas on how to work around this problem?

Interestingly, in Nicaragua, it shows the currency code by default! 🤕

This user is also facing some issues with Taiwanese currency.

Hi @diego-dotta-c,

It’s hard for us to know the real currency since we rely on what the stores send in the transaction. I’ll pass the feedback to the team and see if they can find a solution for this!

Best,

Thanks @joan-cardona ,I just received a generic message from Apple Support:

"That is a GUI in your app and not something that Apple controls. You will need to update your app to adjust the currency on your side."

I’ve recently switched my store to Taiwan, and I’m seeing the correct currency code now. Did you make any changes in the latest versions? I’m currently using the RC SDK 5.12 for iOS.

It’s possible we’ve shipped something that addressed this scenario between the previous version and 5.12, although after a quick search of our repo I’m not sure what it would be (we’re continuously developing the Paywalls feature). Glad to hear it’s working now, though!
