Migrate from Stripe to Paddle integration for web payments ?

I am using RevenueCat with Stripe for web payments. I am considering migrating to Paddle, as it seems to handle tax collection in a way that is understandable (Stripe's tax system is so confusing).

How should I approach such a migration? What should I do with existing subscriptions? Is it possible to "cut" Stripe and have users' ongoing subscriptions remain active until the end of their period? When the end period arrives, I would just ask users to subscribe again via Paddle ? Or is there a better way?

If you are like me and want to share how your migration is going, please use this thread :-)

Hey @Amaury

Thank you for reaching out!

As RevenueCat supports both Stripe and Paddle, and to avoid friction with your users, I recommend keeping your existing Customers on Stripe billing and starting to offer Paddle subscriptions to new customers or those whose subscriptions have already expired.

After you validate that Paddle is the right solution for you, you can start communicating with current Stripe subscribers about the Payment Gateway change so that they can move to Paddle subscriptions.

If you would like quicker cancellations, you could also use Stripe API properties to handle cancellations of existing subscriptions. For example, cancel_at_period_end. This way, the subscription will be cancelled, and the customer will not be charged on the next billing cycle. Once you get the cancelled webhook, you can start offering customers with Paddle subscriptions moving forward.

I hope this helps!
