Free Trials Results In More Than 85% Billing Errors.

I’m using revenuecat for an app called Snap Tap Relax. I’ve doing a free trial and get over 130 free trials but more 85% results in billing errors. That doesn’t include people who cancel. Everything is set up correctly I still get some free trials converting so seems to be set up correctly. I hear others having similar problems.

Just was curious if anyone ever solved this?

This is on Google Play where it’s happening. I read on revenuecat yearly state of address billing errors for android are up to 29%.  Which is not adding up on my end or what I’m seeing others reporting even on IOS. And just so you know i’m running google app promotions campaigns and optimizing for people who do a free trial plus do a relaxation session.  So a better signal to send back to optimize for instead of just free trials. And get about 10 conversions per day. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am in exactly the same situation. I have between 15 and 20 trials per day, and 80% of those that complete the trial period, with the trial still active... give me billing errors.

It is extremely frustrating because it significantly affects revenue.

I've been dealing with this problem for a week since I added the trials to my app, and I still haven't found a possible solution. In my case, the problems come from both iOS and Android... there's no distinction.

I'd say I'm actually converting 1/10 of the active trials...

Hi @michael-6053aa @miguel-riesgo-48dc35 sorry to hear you both are experiencing this! Trials not converting with billing issues are common but as you both are experiencing a large amount I’d like to investigate this further on my end. Could you both open a support ticket here with the following information:

  • The SDK version you are using
  • The project this is for
  • Some transactions you are seeing this with and the corresponding screenshot from the Google Play Order Management page
  • Have you changed anything in your code, SDK versions, or anything in App Store Connect/Google Play Console?
  • Screenshots from App Store Connect/Google Play Console for how the trial and product is setup

Yea it is. Are those free trials you get coming from paid ads or ASO? For me it seems to be even worse with paid ads (google app promotions).

In my case, it's exclusively organic traffic with ASO, but I have very good conversions, so it affects me severely. And with this problem, I'm not willing to invest in ads that won't convert as they should :(

Same here, I feel like its happening too. Out of 4 trials that were supposed to convert only one did not have a billing error issue.

The market is in Brasil and cohorts were from Apple search ads.
Im hoping its because of Apple Seach Ads but i dont understand why would it be.

Yea I agree no reason to do paid traffic if you have free trial.  I guess the only solution is to set up own billing and not use google play or apple billing if you want to do a free trial.  It’s amazing how much miss information is out there when it comes to IOS and android billing errors and free trial conversion rate.

@Haley Pace Any updates here? Our app is also experiencing similar issues, coincidentally starting around the time we bumped to Android 35.
