When the data returns for Metrics in the v2 API, what is “Num tx last 28 days”? There is no explanation about this parameter anywhere I have searched. I am guessing number of trials?
Maybe using the complete word rather than tx would be more helpful to a user.

The “tx” stands for transaction, so it is referring to the number of transactions in the last 28 days. You are correct that this is unclear and I have mentioned this to our product team in order to make it more clear.
