When de-selecting sandbox data, the overview still shows the sandbox data for the "new customers" and "active customers" metrics. Is this expected?

Yes, this is expected! In RevenueCat there isn’t a concept of a “sandbox user” specifically, as the same app user id has the potential to have both sandbox and production purchases:
