Question

Can we track redemptions for specific "Custom Codes" in reports or the RevenueCat dashboard?

Hi everyone,

We are preparing to launch an app using RevenueCat and Apple Offer Codes for an affiliate marketing campaign.

My Goal:

  1. Set up unique Custom Codes for various KOLs (influencers).

  2. Users redeem these codes for subscription discounts.

  3. Track the total redemptions for each specific Custom Code to calculate affiliate payouts.

The Dilemma: I am aware that Apple's Receipt Data/StoreKit doesn't return the actual Custom Code string, only the Offer Reference Name. However, Apple limits us to 10 active Offers per subscription, which isn't enough for our influencer list if each influencer requires a unique Reference Name.

According to Apple's documentation on the Subscription Offer Redemption Report, the report fields include "Offer Reference Name", "Offer Code", and "Number of Redemptions".

For those who have used Custom Codes in production:

  1. Does this specific report break down redemptions by each unique Custom Code string (the actual code users type), or does it aggregate everything under the Offer Reference Name?

  2. Are there any export limitations or delays (e.g., a minimum threshold of redemptions) before these codes show up in the report?

  3. If I have multiple Custom Codes under a single Offer Reference Name, will I see a row for each code in the CSV/Reporter tool?

  4. Can we see the specific number of "Custom Code" used in the RevenueCat Dashboard, or is it also limited to the Offer Reference Name?

I want to avoid "over-engineering" a custom tracking solution if the official Apple reports already provide this granularity.

Thanks in advance for your insights!

@JasperH I don’t have first-hand experience with the Subscription Offer Redemption Report, but I have heard of many developers having challenges attributing In-App Purchases with native App Store Promo/Offer Code redemptions.

There are some services available (such as https://insertaffiliate.com) which aim to provide a solution to this use-case.

If you wish to proceed with the native reception report in App Store Connect, I’d recommend making some sample purchases using custom codes and checking how these are reflected in the report.
